I remember when getting out of bed was a struggle. I was only 33, but I felt much older.  My body was a mess, I was trying to lose the weight of two pregnancies, but couldn’t. I grazed, grazed, grazed. Never felt full. When I was alone, I distracted myself with social media, bad TV. I was numbing myself every day. And you know what? I thought this was normal. This is just what it’s like to be a 30-something mother of two.

One day, I looked in the mirror and I couldn’t recognize the woman looking back at me. It brings tears to my eyes, remembering this. The pain of staying the same was unbearable. Something had to change. I decided that enough was enough.

The first thing I did, along with my sister, who was a notorious yo-yo dieter and has literally tried everything to lose weight — was to take responsibility for our own wellbeing. We studied everything from integrative nutrition, the psychology of eating, physiology of the body, the biology of eating and digestion, and the many fields related to health and personal development.  We spent several years pursuing an education in all these areas and successfully working with clients from around the world. 

Through our extensive studies we realized that the weight loss industry is flawed for so many different reasons; mainly:

1.It focuses on strategies that feature outdated science.  

2.It doesn’t account for the addictive nature of processed food and simply boils the issue down to willpower, which ultimately makes you feel like your cravings are your fault.  Our ancestors never had to worry about what they ate because all of their food came from nature and nothing was made in a lab or a factory.  By contrast, the overriding majority of our food is currently processed and engineered to maximize everything else other than our own health.

3.It views your body as an input output physical machine with no regards to your own individual genetic, hormonal and metabolic make up.  You are far more complex than a machine.  You are mind, body and soul, and so any weight loss strategy that doesn’t take all the different aspects of you into consideration is simply not going to work long term.
