Chasity O’Connell is a licensed Mental Health Counselor (licensed in Washington, USA) and earned her Master’s degree from the School of Foreign Service (2004) at Georgetown University (Washington DC), a Masters in Counseling from Seton Hall University (2011), and a Masters in Psychological Science from Seattle Pacific University (2016). She loves blending research, international perspectives, and evidenced-based treatments.
Chasity has worked with children, adolescents, adults, and families in school, clinic and hospital settings. She uses an integrative approach to therapy relying primarily on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). In her work with parents on child behavioral challenges, she uses the evidenced-based approach of the Incredible Years (of which she is a trained group leader). Her areas of practice include depression, anxiety, adjustment disorders, marital discord, identity challenges, and socio-emotional and behavioral challenges in children.
In addition, Chasity is passionate about psycho-education and de-stigmatizing mental health challenges. As such, she enjoys working with groups and provides presentations on a variety of issues ranging from parenting, marital problems (including pre-marital counseling), stress and anxiety, mental health stigma, depression, anxiety, international adjustment, and community mental health.
Chasity is currently an adjunct at American University in Sharjah where she teaches undergraduate students in psychology. She has authored a chapter in Mental Health and Psychological Practice in the United Arab Emirates (2015) and is thrilled to be living in such a vibrant and diverse city like Dubai—it brings together her many passions, including promoting mental health awareness and access to services, and fostering international/cross-cultural understanding.
