Top 3 Things Women Wonder During Pregnancy

Pregnancy is always  brings change and change always bring insecurity and questions.

Baby-Arabia.com  has asked it’s readers for their top 3 concerns and here they are with our best answers.

1. How can I naturally suppress morning sickness?

We’ve all heard of the dreaded morning sickness, but how can we prevent it or make it go away? Let’s face it no-one really wants to spend all day feeling sick! Morning sickness is caused by rapid changes in hormone levels experienced during pregnancy. If your symptoms are mild, taking vitamin B6 three times at a low dosage of 25mg a day will help you! You can usually find this at your local pharmacy under the name of Unisom.

There are also plenty of home remedies such as ginger which are cures for all sorts of tummy troubles.

2. Are over the counter medications okay?

Some are, but not all. If you are feeling sick with a cold, an allergy relief medication such as loratidine (the OTC form of Claritin) can help you tremendously. This has also been recommending by physicians as a safe OTC medication for women who are pregnant.

If you have a headache and natural relief isn’t working, the ONLY OTC pain reliever that should be taken in acetaminophen. Any other medications can seriously harm the development of your baby. This means you MUST avoid ibuprofen and aspirin as well as other OTC medications. Research shows that when women take ibuprofen, it can prematurely close the ductus arteriosis, which is a vessel in the fetus’ heart. It can also mess with amniotic fluid levels.

3. How much should I eat? Why can’t I eat fish?

Since you are developing another human in your body, you want to make sure you eat at least 300 calories extra, and this is for people who are of normal weight. If you are underweight, you will require a significant amount more. Generally, a woman will need almost 80 more grams of protein a day and at least one serving of dairy per meal.

Eating cheese is fine, but they must be pasteurized and hard. Never, ever touch undercooked cheese or meat. Fish, however, you should avoid eating great amounts of fish. This is because the mercury levels can harm the development of the baby. Cooking fish does not suppress or remove the mercury, therefor only one serving per week is recommended. Fish you should avoid all together include:

  • Tuna
  • Crab
  • Sushi
  • Lobster
While these are the best types of fish that you may crave more, they tend to have higher mercury levels in them.

Eating, medications and morning sickness are all things that women think about before a pregnancy and at the beginning stages. Once the second trimester occurs, the routine of what you can and cannot eat is a little easier to handle.
