Benefits of figs for lactating women and babies

Figs are one of the most popular dried fruit, especially in winter, and not only for adults, but also for babies.
Nutritionist Janine Awwad Al Jamil shares with you the top benefits of figs:

For babies: Fig is a natural laxative that facilitates digestion. Some of its main characteristics is being an antimicrobial, enhancing the immune system and protecting the liver.
There is evidence that figs provide the essential vitamins and minerals necessary for your baby’s growth; it is rich in iron, copper, calcium, phosphor, potassium, and magnesium, which are important for the development of the different systems of the body and the development of both the body and the brain.
Hence, lactating women are advised to eat it.

Immune system: Figs are rich in different kinds of biochemical elements and polyphenol, which are important for improving the immune system.

Digestion: Introducing figs into the diet of babies, especially those with weak digestion system and those who need very soft food, would facilitate the body absorption of nutrients.
Natural laxative: Figs are rich in fibers, which increase the mass of the stool by absorbing water, making the intestines smooth.

Antimicrobial: Babies are more likely to get microbial infections than adults. There is also evidence that figs have antimicrobial characteristics.

Protecting the liver: Newborns and babies are more likely to get kidney diseases such as jaundice and hepatitis. Figs provide a sort of protection against such diseases.

Tip: It is preferable to choose fresh or mashed figs, as they are easier to chew for babies. However, you should check that your baby is not allergic to this fruit by testing it for four days. Start with feeding him a little bit of fig apart from the main meals.

Try to introduce figs to your diet if you choose to breastfeed, you can have 2-3 figs a day to protect your baby from getting some diseases.
